The approach I have used is broadly the approach outlined here but all I have ever needed to remove the little blighters was shampoo and a nit comb. It may take 8 hours to drown them but 5 minutes in very soapy hair seems to be long enough that they let go and I can comb them out fairly easily. Just doing this every few days has worked every time. I have three children and I have dealt with quite a few infestations over the years.
